Linda Swain Announces School Committee Campaign
Newton, MA — June 5, 2025 — Longtime Newton resident and active community volunteer, Linda Swain, has announced her candidacy for the Newton School Committee, running for the Ward 2 seat, which is elected citywide.
Swain, a parent of two and a seasoned marketing executive, brings nearly two decades of local involvement and leadership to her campaign. From the early days of raising her family in Newton to her more recent role as Co-President of the Newton North Boosters Association, Swain has consistently shown a deep commitment to public education and the broader Newton community.
My decision to run for School Committee is grounded in a lifelong belief in the importance of public education,” said Swain. “As a parent, volunteer, and professional, I’ve seen the impact that thoughtful decisions and strong collaboration can have on student outcomes. I also recognize that students’ needs have shifted dramatically in recent years, creating new complexities for educators and placing increased strain on the school budget. I’m ready to listen, lead, and serve with a focus on what’s best for our children.”
Swain’s connection to public education runs deep. Her mother was a special education teacher, and Swain herself attended public schools in Massachusetts through grade 12. She later earned her undergraduate degree from Tufts University and an MBA from Boston College. Her professional career spans leadership roles in marketing within the commercial real estate industry.
Her candidacy has been met with enthusiasm by community members and local leaders. Outgoing School Committee chair Chris Brezski says "I have gotten to know Linda, and I believe she will continue to advance the School Committee’s view toward data-driven decision-making with a focus on student outcomes. I know she will work toward fulfilling Dr. Nolin’s vision of a system that puts students first and communicates transparently with the community."
Swain’s campaign is rooted in values that reflect her personal and professional journey: a dedication to academic excellence for every student, pragmatic problem-solving and collaborative leadership. According to her website, her priorities include upholding excellence in education for all students and promoting greater transparency in budgeting and decision-making. She is committed to thoughtful evaluation of policies around personal technology use, and school start times, while also ensuring that educators, staff and administrators feel heard and respected.

Swain lives in Newton with her husband and their two children, both proud products of Newton Public Schools. She has also served on the boards of Riverside Children’s Center and the Cabot After School Program, and volunteers as a Land Steward for Newton’s Conservation Office.
