Letter to the Editor: Linda is committed to helping bring back the excellence in education that was the impetus for many of us to move to Newton, ensuring every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

To Swain, an excellent education must provide the tools to regulate mental health and holistic wellness, promote student safety and comfort, and prepare Newton students to pursue their goals successfully.

Swain has experience with NPS firsthand, with both of her children in the school system from kindergarten through 12^th grade. She knows that the school’s budget has been a topic of debate for several years.

Ahead of this year’s election in November, the NTA has sent a questionnaire to all candidates running for School Committee as part of their endorsement process. Click below to read my responses:

“I’ve selected strong, independent candidates who voice their individual perspectives, and at times disagree with one another and me while working collaboratively and effectively in the best interests of our students.”

The ten new candidates, and up to five competitive races including Ward 1, would be the most for either category since at least 2010, according to Newton Election Commission archives.

Ward 2 resident Linda Swain announced she is running for school committee in the city election later this year. Swain, the daughter of a special education teacher, said the quality of public schools is very important to her.
