Patch: New School Committee Candidate in Newton's Ward 2
NEWTON, MA — Ward 2 resident Linda Swain announced she is running for school committee in the 2025 city election later this year.
Swain, the daughter of a special education teacher, said the quality of public schools is very important to her. After attending public school her entire life through high school, Swain earned her undergraduate degree from Tufts University and later a Masters in Business Administration from Boston College. She now works in the marketing field white raising her two children in Newton.
“As a parent, volunteer, and professional, I’ve seen the impact that thoughtful decisions and strong collaboration can have on student outcomes. I also recognize that students’ needs have shifted dramatically in recent years, creating new complexities for educators and placing increased strain on the school budget,” Swain said. “I’m ready to listen, lead, and serve with a focus on what’s best for our children.”
The Co-President of the Newton North Boosters Association has recently been endorsed by current Committee Chair Chris Brezski, who is not running for re-election.
"I have gotten to know Linda, and I believe she will continue to advance the School Committee’s view toward data-driven decision-making with a focus on student outcomes," Brezski said.
Swain is currently the only candidate running for the Ward 2 seat. The Newton Municipal General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 4.
